Corporate wellness programmes are evolving beyond HR-driven initiatives. Today, Wellhub announced a new app feature: Wellhub Challenges that empowers employees to create and join their own wellness competitions, helping to drive higher engagement, community building, and holistic wellbeing across organisations.
Empowering Employees to Lead Wellness Initiatives
Wellhub, the leading corporate wellness platform, has introduced employee-created Wellhub Challenges, a feature designed to boost engagement with workplace wellbeing programmes. This product update allows any employee to create personalised challenges directly within the Wellhub app, complete with real-time leaderboards, progress tracking, and the ability to invite colleagues, friends, or family, even across different companies.
The move represents a shift from traditional HR-led activities towards more dynamic, user-initiated experiences that support wellbeing in a social and accessible way.
Addressing Motivation, Awareness, and Engagement Gaps
Data suggests that 29 percent of employees report a lack of motivation as a barrier to exercise, while 36 percent remain unaware of the wellness benefits available to them. Wellhub Challenges addresses these issues by gamifying wellness, allowing employees to easily create challenges that reward everyday healthy behaviours.
Employees can earn points for daily steps (1 step = 1 point) or check-ins at gyms, studios, or live classes (1 check-in = 5,000 points), aligning with the World Health Organisation’s recommended daily activity goals. Challenges automatically sync with Google Fit, Apple Health, and other fitness apps for ease of use.
Proven Results and Growing Potential
Employer-led challenges on the Wellhub platform previously drove an 8 percent average increase in employee enrolment. Overall, Wellhub reports five times higher engagement compared to traditional wellness benefits such as gym reimbursement schemes.
The introduction of employee-created Challenges is expected to drive even greater participation by creating a sense of ownership, friendly competition, and peer support.
“Wellhub Challenges is intentionally designed to create a vibrant community where everyone feels supported and inspired to thrive together,” said Livia Martini, Chief People Officer at Wellhub.
Supporting a More Holistic Approach to Wellbeing
As 76 percent of employees express a desire for employers to prioritise mental health, Wellhub Challenges also supports holistic wellbeing goals. The social, accessible nature of these activities helps reinforce a culture of health, motivation, and inclusivity across in-person, remote, and hybrid teams.
“It is about building a community where employees can rally around their wellbeing, celebrate each other’s successes, and find motivation in shared experiences,” added Martini.
Wellhub Challenges is now available to all app users. As organisations continue to prioritise employee wellbeing, tools that empower individuals to lead the charge are becoming a critical part of modern employee experience strategies.
